5 Days Marangu Route Kilimanjaro

5-Day Marangu Route Kilimanjaro Overview

The 5-Day Marangu Route Kilimanjaro, often referred to as the “Coca-Cola Route,” is the oldest and most established trail to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro. It is favored for its relatively gentle slopes and the availability of hut accommodation throughout the trek, making it a popular choice among climbers seeking comfort and accessibility.

This 5-Day Marangu Route Kilimanjaro itinerary allows climbers to ascend steadily through diverse ecological zones, beginning in the dense montane rainforest and progressing through heath, moorland, alpine desert, and finally the arctic summit zone. The route offers spectacular scenery including the lush forests of the south-eastern slopes, the Maundi Crater’s unique floral environment, and panoramic views of Mawenzi and Kibo peaks.

Though shorter than other routes, the Marangu Route provides a solid chance of success for fit climbers, but the limited acclimatisation time means careful pacing is essential. It is suitable for those who prefer a less rugged trail with the convenience of shared huts rather than camping.
