Embark on a thrilling full-day adventure to Mount Kilimanjaro National Park, where you’ll hike across the spectacular Shira Plateau Mount Kilimanjaro, one of the most scenic areas on Africa’s tallest mountain. Standing at 5,895 meters (19,341 feet) above sea level, Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa and the world’s tallest free-standing peak, a true natural wonder and one of the famed Seven Summits.

Your Shira Plateau Mount Kilimanjaro journey begins with a scenic drive through the outskirts of Moshi and into the lush West Kilimanjaro Forest Reserve, where you may spot Colobus monkeys and a variety of bird species among the trees. As you ascend to approximately 3,500 meters (11,480 feet), you’ll reach the Shira Gate, your starting point for the hike.

From here, you’ll set out on foot across the Shira Plateau, a vast expanse of ancient volcanic landscape offering breathtaking views and a true sense of wilderness. Accompanied by a professional mountain guide or park ranger, you’ll explore diverse trails while enjoying the sights, sounds, and colors of Tanzania’s high-altitude ecosystem.

When the weather is clear, you’ll be treated to magnificent views of Kibo Peak and Kilimanjaro’s northern glaciers, as well as the sweeping plains of Amboseli National Park in Kenya and the deep Simba River Gorge below. You’ll make several stops at scenic viewpoints along the northern rim of the Shira Crater, perfect for photography and quiet appreciation of the area’s volcanic features.
