3 Day Mount Meru Trekking Overview
Experience an unforgettable 3 day trek up Mount Meru, Tanzania second highest mountain. The adventure begins at Momella Gate and passes through lush forests, moorlands, and spectacular volcanic landscapes. You will spend nights at Miriakamba and Saddle Huts before making a midnight summit attempt to Socialist Peak at 4,566 meters. Enjoy breathtaking sunrise views, wildlife encounters, and stunning views of Mount Kilimanjaro before descending to Momella Gate and transferring back to Arusha.
Day by day itinerary
Day 1: Arusha – Momella Gate – Miriakamba
After breakfast, you will be picked up from your hotel in Arusha and transferred to Momella Gate inside Arusha National Park for registration and final preparations.
The trek begins through lush montane forest, where you may encounter giraffes, buffaloes, colobus monkeys, and a variety of bird species. An armed park ranger will accompany you for safety throughout the hike.
You will enjoy a picnic lunch along the trail before continuing to Miriakamba Hut, where you will have dinner and rest.
Trekking time: 4 to 5 hours

Overnight: Miriakamba Hut
Day 2: Miriakamba Hut – Saddle Hut
After breakfast, continue your trek through the forest and into the moorland zone. Along the way, enjoy beautiful views of the Meru Crater and Ash Cone.
Upon reaching Saddle Hut, you can take an optional short hike to Little Meru (3,820 m) for additional acclimatization and spectacular sunset views.

Overnight: Saddle Hut
Day 3: Summit – Socialist Peak Descent to Arusha
Your summit attempt begins around midnight. You will hike slowly through the night toward Socialist Peak (4,566 m), aiming to reach the summit around sunrise.
From the summit, enjoy spectacular views of Mount Kilimanjaro and the surrounding landscape. After spending some time at the summit, descend to Saddle Hut, continue down to Miriakamba Hut, and finally proceed to Momella Gate.
At Momella Gate, you will meet your driver and transfer back to Arusha.
